5 Stars based on its coffee alone! Best cortadito I've had in Miami! I've been back twice. They make it with the perfect ratio of coffee to milk to sugar.
Besides that we had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon after stumbling into it when we made a wrong turn. It has a giant rooster out front so why not.
I had a lechón on Cuban bread. 1) nothing on fresh Cuban bread can be bad. 2) CUBAN BREAD IS LIFE!
So back to the sandwich-the lechón was delicious and the bread we'll see above. I did miss maybe some more onions or some mayo to make it perfect. It was huge and definitely shareable. I also ordered a side of tostones which were delicious I will say the garlic mojo left much to be desired it was neither garlicky nor much of a mojo.
I got the cascos the guava and cheese for dessert - it was good but I think they used actual cream cheese and well that's not supposed to be it.
I will say it was quite busy with what seemed like locals. The staff is friendly but stern aka not smiley & sweet more like RBF but super attentive and want to make sure you a) have enough food & b) are enjoying your food. Much like a Cuban or Puerto Rican mom.
All in all I'm super happy we stumbled upon La Carreta and can't wait to go back in about 8 hours for a Cortadito y in Cafe con Leche. -

The food was delish (and our driver and Lyft passenger said it was the best Cuban food in Miami).
- they bring you complimentary garlicky, butter pieces of toast in a bread basket
- they guayabera margarita was yummy and good if you like sweet fruity drinks. ( I don't, but figured I'd give it a try).
- service is fast and efficient. 10/10.
- the cortadito automatically comes with milk and sugar so make sure to order without if that's your preference. (I wish I'd known this).
- portions are massive
- prices are CHEAP.
- there are quite a number of vegan options -

Historic Cuban Restaurant, very busy and always packed.
I have been here a few times, today's visit subpar.
I ordered the Cheeseburger, not cooked all the way through and served with cold fries. But the waitress brought out piping hit ones.
My wife had the Steak Sandwich, she said it was awesome.
To top it off had the Cheesecake. Pretty Good.
Over all atmosphere was great , loud but it's a big place.
That's all -

Did Versailles on Tuesday and La Carreta on Wednesday. La Carreta is just as good as Versailles. Both places are equally the same when it comes to the food, quality, and authenticity. Instead of dinner, I actually came for breakfast and encountered a life-changing tastebud-changing experience. I have drank tons and tons of coffee all over the world and I can officially say I had the most delicious coffee with milk (cafe con leche) here. Holy cow (pun intended)! The bread here was also pretty unique. Ordered an omelette sandwich along with an order of croquetas. I cannot wait to come and eat dinner here next time!

We were in the area looking for an authentic and old school spot to have a Cubano. It was in between this place and another nearby popular restaurant...based on reviews and history, we decided to give La Carreta a try..
Super casual diner-esque/coffee shop atmosphere with some Cuban flare. Many, if not most of the wait staff is Cuban or of Latin/Hispanic descent which made our experience all the while more interesting..
While the Hostess seemed to have a little attitude upon walking in, our waitress was very sweet and patient with us; an older woman with a heavy accent.. We browsed the huge menu and ordered the Pina Colada and Margherita to start. I was pleasantly surprised by how well made the drinks were..you could really taste the alcohol in each (happy face).
Even though we came for the famous Cuban, we of course had to try a few other things...there is so much on the menu it's mind blowing, not to mention a plethora of traditional Cuban dishes, soups, sides...
Assorted croquettes (1 ea: ham, chicken, cod & yuca) served hot and very crispy...not bad but not great. Filling was gummy in all four which made them similar in flavor. Fried calamari was heavily floured, so much so that you couldn't taste anything but crispy breading...Ceviche Tropical was extremely fresh and delicious. Guess I should've known better than to order a seafood dish with casserole in the name? Although I really wanted seafood, I honestly didn't have a great feeling about ordering this and was really hoping it would prove me wrong, but as soon as I tasted it - I had won this fight. The sauce was overly sweet and aside from the few mussels and clams - the snapper and maybe corvina(?) was fishy. Comes with a side of white rice and plantains. Big portion - very plain, unexciting dish overall.
On to the famous Cuban - the bread was lovely. It had all the right culprits. But the cheese was barely melted. The pork had a funny taste...off putting. Italian's use a word to describe this: "fai schifo" and that's exactly what I said. Maybe it was a bad day for pork..
On the bright side, prices are dirt cheap for all that food.
The complimentary Cuban bread was really good.
3 stars for the few things we did like & friendly, good service.
You may have better luck than we did.
